The Crystal River
The best time of year to visit the Crystals River is between June 15 and early December, during the rainy season when the color is most vibrant. The nature preserve is closed to visitors during other months, so it is not possible to access. During the summer, the plants are in a process of drought and the river’s appearance is completely different.
During the rainy season,
the river is one of nature’s most spectacular sights.
Throughout the rainy season the river is beautiful, but its color depends on the lighting and the water level. Bright, clear days lend to stronger colors. On cloudy days, the river appears more opaque. The weather conditions are luck of the draw and affect the experience significantly.
The Crystal River is considered one of the most beautiful natural phenomena in the world.
Four Day Program
Day 1
- Arrive at La Macarena airport. Our driver will pick you up and take you to your hotel.
- Informational session on Sierra de la Macarena National Park
- Depending on the weather, head to Mirador Caño Cristalitos or Bajo Lozada.

- Head back to La Macarena, have dinner at a local restaurant, and get some rest in your hotel.
- Day 2
- Breakfast at a local restaurant
- A half-hour boat trip on the Guayabero River
- SUV ride from La Cachivera to Caño Cajuche
- Walk an hour from Caño Cajuche to the Crystal River
- Walk to the Five Colors River via the path along Los Pianos or Salto del Águila or the Pailones jungle,

- lunch
- Return in car to the Guayabero River.
- Take a boat along the Guayabero River to La Macarena Port.
- Dinner at a local restaurant
- Return to the hotel and rest
- Day 3
- Breakfast at a local restaurant
- A half-hour boat trip on the Guajabro river
- SUV ride from La Cachivera to Caño Cajuche
- Walk to the Five Colors River via the path along Los Pianos or Salto del Águila or the Pailones, depending on the environmental agency’s direction. You will take a different route from Day 2.

- Return in car to the Guayabero River
- Take a boat along the Guayabero River to La Macarena Port
- Dinner at a local restaurant
- Return to the hotel and rest
- Day 4
- Watch the sunrise with the backdrop of the jungle.
- Enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant.
- Plant a tree at an organic farm
- Ride to visit Caño Piedra
- Head to the Macarena airport and take a chartered flight to your next destination
