Comuna 13 was at one point considered the most dangerous neighborhood in the world, with one of the highest murder rates anywhere. The neighborhood was previously controlled by drug dealers, murderers and guerrillas. The police didn’t dare to enter the neighborhood, and in the evenings, public transportation would stop working and no one could go out or enter the Comuna 13 neighborhood. In October of 2002, about a thousand soldiers, police and special forces invaded the neighborhood accompanied by tanks and the air force and began Operation “Orion” to clean up the neighborhood. The Comuna 13 neighborhood now features thousands of the most beautiful graffiti paintings in the world, and they are the reason that the most dangerous neighborhood in the world became the most touristic neighborhood in Medellin, visited by thousands of tourists every day.

The question always arises: how much money should we take with us ?

When your trip is over and your accommodations are closed, what’s left are basically outings for entertainment, small items like phone chargers if you forgot, taxis if needed, and meals that aren’t included.
אWe recommend taking an amount of money that will provide security for the first few days of the trip, in addition to cash and a credit card with which you can withdraw money during the trip according to your needs.
For the worriers among us, it is advisable to take an extra credit card and put it in a separate place so that if, God forbid, one is lost, there will be an extra card for safety.
(Those who do not have an additional card can go to the post office to purchase a prepaid card, deposit cash into the card, and use it here in Colombia anywhere.
Don’t worry, there are ATMs in all cities and almost all destinations in the country where you can withdraw cash with the credit cards you have in Israel.
There is no need to take a large amount of cash. It is better to have your mind focused on the trip than on worrying about the large amount of money you took.
So if you are a solo traveler, $400 – $500 will be enough to easily get you through the first few days of the trip, and you can withdraw on credit later as needed.
If you are a family, $800 – $1000 will definitely be enough for you.
