A world famous destination thanks to being the town of the Zocalos, its people have invested in it to preserve its historical value. It is decorated with colorful, beautiful elements that adorn the houses of the town. Guatape sockets are small works of art that appear in the lower part of the houses, which reveal the culture of the town. Near Guatape is one of the most important tourist attractions, Piedra del Peñol, also known as Guatape Rock. It’s a huge stone, 220 meters high. It’s worth getting to its top, 740 steps were built on its side so you can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast lakes, consisting of many islands surrounded by fresh water. This place is considered one of the most beautiful observation points in Colombia.

Day 8 – Medellin
City Tour and Comuna 13 Tour
City Tour
Visit the cultural landmarks of the city of Medellin.
You will visit the historical center of the city of Medellin, where the government buildings and the town hall are located. You will visit the Park of Lights and Botero Square where the 24 statues made by Fernando Botero, one of the most famous sculptors in the world, are located. From there, you will take the cable car above the slums of the city. Then you will take a graffiti tour of the Comuna 13.
Graffiti Tour
Comuna 13 was at one point considered the most dangerous neighborhood in the world, with one of the highest murder rates anywhere. The neighborhood was previously controlled by drug dealers, murderers and guerrillas. The police didn’t dare to enter the neighborhood, and in the evenings, public transportation would stop working and no one could go out or enter the Comuna 13 neighborhood. In October of 2002, about a thousand soldiers, police and special forces invaded the neighborhood accompanied by tanks and the air force and began Operation “Orion” to clean up the neighborhood. The Comuna 13 neighborhood now features thousands of the most beautiful graffiti paintings in the world, and they are the reason that the most dangerous neighborhood in the world became the most touristic neighborhood in Medellin, visited by thousands of tourists every day.

The Money Question: How much money should we take with us?
After you’ve paid for your trip and accommodations, you may want to bring some money for additional entertainment, items you may forget to pack (like a phone charger), taxis, and occasional meals that are not included.
We recommend taking enough money in cash for the first few days, as well as a credit or debit card for withdrawals. If you’re concerned, take an extra credit card and place it in a separate bag, so that if one is lost, you have a backup. (Or purchase a prepaid credit card at any convenience store to use here in Colombia as well).
Don’t worry, there are ATMs in all cities where you can withdraw cash with your foreign cards.
There is no need to bring a large amount of cash. It is much better to relax and focus on the trip, instead of worrying about a large wad of cash you have hidden.
If you are traveling alone, $500 will be enough to get you through the first few days, and if you need more, you can withdraw cash. If you are a family, $1000 will be plenty.
